Lake Garda With Kids: Gardaland, Beaches and What Works for Different Ages
Updated October 18, 2026 · 5 min read
Lake Garda is one of the easier Italian holiday areas with children. The theme park is at the south end, the beaches are close to the towns, and the cycle path along the Mincio is flat. The hard part is not finding things to do; it is deciding how many to fit into a week before everyone is tired.
The big day: Gardaland
For most families this is the centrepiece, and our guide Is Gardaland worth it? covers it in detail. The short version from the operator’s listing: about 40 rides, six of them rollercoasters, and a separate area for small children with a Peppa Pig theme.
- The one-day ticket is €45 per person (4.6 stars, 3,057 reviews).
- Children under 90 cm enter free.
- A free shuttle bus runs from Peschiera del Garda railway station to the park every 30 minutes.
- The ticket is for a fixed date and is not refundable, so a rainy day is spent anyway.
The rainy-day option: SEA LIFE
The SEA LIFE aquarium ticket is €9, with 1,278 reviews and 4.0 stars. Unlike the park, the date is open. Reviewers describe a visit of about an hour to an hour and 40 minutes, a tunnel and a sea lion show that suit very small children, and queues at the entrance on busy days.
Two things matter for families with babies. Strollers are not allowed inside; they stay in a covered storage area. Free baby carriers are available at the entrance for infants under 9 kg, in limited numbers.
Beaches
You do not need to book a beach, and our listings do not cover them. Check conditions and any rules on the spot, and keep children within reach of an adult at the water.
Neighbouring parks
Next to Lazise are the Caneva water park and the Movieland film park, part of the same resort. We list no ordinary tickets for either; the few Movieland experiences on GetYourGuide are VIP and dinner packages with no reviews yet. Look at the official sites for prices, dates and height limits. If you plan a park every day, remember that Gardaland alone is a full day for most families.

What works by age
Toddlers and under-fives
- SEA LIFE and the Peppa Pig area at Gardaland.
- The beach, in the morning.
- The Monte Baldo cable car from Malcesine: strollers can go on board unfolded and children up to 1.20 m travel free. See the Monte Baldo guide.
Primary-school children
- Gardaland for a full day.
- A boat: the panoramic sailing cruise from Malcesine is two hours (€40, 4.3 stars, 374 reviews), and the Fiat 500 boat in Sirmione needs no boating licence. Check each operator’s age rules.
Teenagers
- The big rollercoasters at Gardaland.
- E-bike rental from Peschiera (€35, 4.7 stars, 78 reviews), suitable for people at least 155 cm tall, and the flat cycle path to Borghetto. More in our guide to horse riding and e-bikes.
- Canyoning near Arco is an option for older teenagers; the operator states no age but excludes non-swimmers and anyone under 40 kg, so ask first.
Cooking with children
There is one family cooking lesson near Desenzano del Garda and Sirmione for €160 (fresh pasta and tiramisù, with a tasting at the end). It has a single review so far, so treat the rating with caution.
When it is a poor idea
- Two park days in a row with children under six. Little legs run out before the rides do.
- A boat trip for children who get seasick. Two hours is a long time if it goes wrong. For remedies, ask a paediatrician or pharmacist.
- E-bikes for younger children. The rental starts at 155 cm, and the guided tours state no age in their summaries; ask before you book.
Most operators set their own age and height limits, and these are on the booking pages. For more park options, see the page on Gardaland and tickets.
Prices, hours and conditions are the operators’ own and can change; the booking page shows what applies on your date.
